Agribusiness's biggest agribusiness merger is officially complete, with Elders announcing on 4 November 2025, that it has acquired 100% of the shares in Delta Agribusiness Pty Ltd (Delta).
ACCC Gives Elders/Delta Tick of Approval
The $475 million purchase was first announced in November of 2024 and was approved by the ACCC on 9 October this year. As part of that approval, Elders is required to sell six Delta stores in Western Australia.
"Our review closely considered the likely effect of the proposed acquisition on competition in each local area where both Elders and Delta have a retail store," ACCC Deputy Chair Mick Keogh said.
"The nature of competition in the retail supply of rural merchandise is more localised than is the case in other retail sectors, partly due to the differences in farming in different local areas, and the importance of local relationships."
"Ultimately, the ACCC did not consider that the proposed acquisition was likely to substantially lessen competition in any relevant market with the undertaking provided by Elders," Mr Keogh said.
The ultimate outcome of that ACCC review was that the acquisition would only affect competition in some areas in Western Australia. Elders agreed to divest six Delta stores in Western Australia, with each sale approved by the ACCC.
Geraldton-based Independent Rural Pty Ltd were approved as the purchaser for Delta stores in Dalwallinu and Kalannie, and Victoria's E. E. Muir & Sons Pty Limited (Muirs) as the purchaser for Delta stores in Albany, Hyden, Manypeaks and Wellstead.
Business as Usual for Delta and Elders
Delta's business structure, branding and management will remain effectively independent of its new parent company. The company will continue to operate under its own brand, culture, and management structure, as part of Elder's “light touch” integration strategy.
"This transaction is the culmination of a thorough two-year process to find the right long-term shareholder for Delta Ag," said Delta Managing Director and Co-Founder Gerard Hines.
"With Elders, we have found a partner that shares our values and our commitment to supporting farming families and regional communities."
"Our staff, customers, and suppliers can be confident that it will be business as usual, with the added strength and opportunities that come from being part of a larger national group," he said.

Elders Managing Director and CEO, Mark Allison, said, “We are delighted to welcome Delta into the Elders Group."
"This acquisition strengthens our geographic footprint and enhances our technical capabilities, particularly in ag tech, precision agriculture and farm advisory services."
Elders Workforce Increase
The merger gives Elders Group a total workforce of about 3500 (based on 2023-24 payroll) and 324 retail sites. Bringing them almost up to Nutrien's 400 retail store count.
Delta Agribusiness currently has about 500 staff, including 80 agronomists, in 64 branches in NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, plus a southern Queensland branch in Goondiwindi.
Its trading entities include Delta Ag, North West Ag Services, Agrivision Consultants, Grower Supplies and EP Ag'n'Fert.
The acquisition marks a significant milestone in Elders’ strategic growth agenda, reinforcing its commitment to delivering enhanced services and support to Australian producers.
