Australian Steaks A Cut Above The Rest
October 22, 2025

The medallists for the 2025 World Steak Challenge have been announced, and Australia has topped the gold medal tally.

The event, held in Amsterdam in September, awarded a total of 304 medals, including 112 gold medals, recognising the best quality meat across the globe.

Titans of International Steaks Among Judges

More than 500 steaks were cooked on grills supplied by Synergy Grill and judged blind by a carefully selected judging panel of more than 60 experts.

Judges included Richie Wilson, culinary director of FIRE Steakhouse & Bar; Ioannis Grammenos, executive chef and Meatologist of Heliot Steak House in London; Katie Doherty, CEO at the International Meat Trade Association; butcher and food writer Jessica Wragg; executive chef Luciana Berry, Fred Smith, head of beef at Flat Iron; and foodie Dimas Ramadhan.

Gold Medals For The Aussies (and Irish)

Australia once again took home the most gold medals, with 25 steaks from the country awarded the accolade, the most awarded to any country.

We were closely followed by Ireland, with 24 steaks awarded a gold medal. Overall, Ireland had the greatest medal haul with 68 steaks awarded either a gold, silver or bronze award, ahead of Australia with 40 medals and Argentina with 29 medals.

Gold medallists in the eye fillet division included Thomas Foods International (TFI), Pardoo Wagyu and Hancock Agriculture’s 2GR brands. Jack’s Creek, Pardoo Wagyu and TFI all took gold in the sirloin division. The ribeye division paid dividends for Stanbroke, JBS Australia (Aberdeen Black), 2GR, Jack’s Creek and Pardoo.

Australian Steaks Sweep New Wagyu Division

For the first time in World Steak Challenge history, a dedicated Wagyu division was judged. Gold medal results in the Wagyu category were dominated by Australia, accounting for 14 of the golds awarded to Aussies.

Wagyu entries from Japan were awarded 6 gold medals in the category.

The Australian Wagyu gold medallists included Jack’s Creek, Stone Axe Pastoral, Hancock Agriculture’s 2GR, Stockyard and Pardoo Wagyu.

Reaching For The 2025 World's Best Steak

The reveal of 2025’s World’s Best Steak, as well as category and continent winners, is yet to be announced. The ultimate winners in each category will be decided from among the gold medalists at a dinner being held at London’s Smith & Wollensky restaurant on 10 November.

Since 2014, Australia has won 4 World's Best Steak accolades - we're sure we're all hoping for a 5th title.

The World Steak Challenge is an annual event that gives steak producers and suppliers a much-needed platform to showcase product quality, breed credentials and processing standards on an international stage. It is organised by William Reed the publisher of Restaurant as well as the World’s 50 Best Restaurant and a number of other leading business food and drink publications.
