Australia’s agriculture sector is set for an exceptional year. ABARES’ December quarter reports forecast combined agriculture, fisheries and forestry production to reach a record $106.4 billion in 2025–26. Agricultural production alone is expected to hit $99.5 billion—the highest on record—driven by firm livestock markets and steady national crop value.
Record Production And Exports On The Horizon
- Strong restocker demand is lifting livestock prices and value across sheep, lamb, and cattle, even as turnoff moderates.
- Combined agriculture, fisheries and forestry export value is forecast to rise to $83.9 billion, with farm exports projected at $78.9 billion.
- These settings underscore the strength, resilience and global competitiveness of Australia’s primary industries as we head into 2026.
Profitability And Crop Outlook
- Average broadacre farm cash income is forecast to reach $227,000 per farm in 2025–26—an encouraging lift for producers.
- Australia’s national winter crop production is on track to reach 66.3 million tonnes, the second-largest on record.
- Harvest is well underway across all states, with significantly above‑average yields reported in northern New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia. Parts of south‑east Australia, however, experienced a dry spring that tempered yields in some districts.
